Tight braiding and ‘cornrowing’ may, over time, cause permanent damage to the hair and the scalp and as result produce a hair loss.
Chemicals
Some chemicals used in hair styling can, over time, cause permanent damage to the hair and the scalp and result in hair loss.
Trichotillomania (compulsive hair plucking)
Here, a person feels compelled to pluck their hair in regular or bizarre patterns, resulting over time in traction alopecia and permanent hair loss.
Scarring alopecia
This is hair loss due to scarring in the scalp area. Scarring alopecia typically involves the top of the scalp and occurs predominantly in women. This condition is common in Afro-Caribbean women and is believed to be associated with persistent tight braiding or “cornrowing” of the hair. Some form of scarring alopecia may also occur in postmenopausal women: in this case it´s associated with inflammation of hair follicles and subsequent scarring.
Hypothyroidism
A thyroid deficiency can be associated with thinning, patchy hair loss.
Pregnancy
Hormonal changes and the stress of pregnancy may cause temporary hair loss.

How is the hair transplant for women in Turkey performed?
When performing a hair transplant in Turkey for women we use a technique called micro FUE hair transplantation. It consists of taking hair follicles individually from the donor site and transplanting them to the required areas with the help of a ‘punch’. Since women have thinner hair strands than men, the punch´s diameter varies between 0.6 to 0.75 mm.
If the number of grafts to be transplanted is less than 2000 and the transplantation is performed mainly in the forehead line, complete hair-shaving is not required: in this case only the donor site is shaved in the shape of a small split between both ears on the upper side of the nape of the neck. However, if the number of grafts exceeds 2000 and the transplant area is on the top side, a complete shaving might be required.
